Social Media and PR

Social media has officially taken over. Who would have thought? From the dawn of time with Myspace, social media presence has grown to be one of the predominate avenues to connect with people. With over millions of people connecting everyday, companies are even getting involved with social media. This makes social media important to public relations. One reason why because it is FREE. With such a low cost, PR practitioners can easily maintain, connect, and promote their company. If a message need to be sent out quickly, PR can easily tweet, post, blog about it in a matter of seconds their customers/followers will know. Social media gives a great way to connect with customers. PR can easily know what their customers think about new products and even the company itself.

In a public relations campaign or just in everyday social media efforts, social media can assist in promotions. Brand mentions, follows, retweets, likes are ways to see how effective a social media campaign can be. ROI (return on investment) is what a company should look to see how effective their social media is. Companies should take advantage of social media as an opportunity to promote the brand and maintain the company’s image.

After the class is over, I will keep my Twitter account. It is an account that I had created a few years ago an just stop using it. Most of my social media accounts I stop using once the “new thing” comes out.

  1. Aw man, I remember Myspace. Do you remember Zanga? Yes social media sites have evolved from then to now, and will continue to change over time. I am interested what will be the next big thing.
